Saint Basil Books is the name I chose (in February 2022) for my personal lay-evangelistic ministry, which is both internet-based and home-based from Brookings/Harbor, Oregon. My intent is to offer a bookstore to the public and our house as a meeting place for local Orthodox Christians and anyone who wishes to join us. All are invited!

In January of 2023, I was accepted into a course of study with the Saint Irenaeus House of Orthodox Studies (SIHOS.org) to become a priest. And in March of 2023, the small group meeting at my house became an official mission of ROCOR-WR.org. Our name is now St. Brigid Orthodox Christian Mission. I now intend to create a separate website for the mission under that name.

I do not currently have a bank account and 501c3 incorporation set up for Saint Brendan the Navigator Mission. When I get that set up I would gladly accept donations for expenses related to purchasing books and icons to display in the store. Once I have a certain stock of these items then I wouldn’t need further donations because they could be replenished using the proceeds from sales. But if anyone wanted to make donations for print advertisements to be distributed through a mailing campaign, then that could be possibility.

It’s also possible that I could need some help with purchasing building materials for converting the shed which is currently located on my property into a beautiful Orthodox Christian Bookstore. This is the shed:

And this is what it would look like after the conversion is accomplished:

The shed has a gambrel roof, which is a roof with a bend in it. So I will keep and extend the existing steep portion of the roof until it reaches a point which is higher than the existing peak of the roof. I will also have to build a 4 foot by 7 foot section on the front and build a tower to rest the union dome on.

Finally, I may need monthly financial support to ease the burden of providing for my family’s living expenses while I am completing my studies with SIHOS.org.

Please keep me in your prayers and pray for Brookings and Harbor, Oregon, together with the surrounding areas, that God would call persons from this area to the Orthodox faith!

A blessed day to you,
Martin Becktell
